About

A treasure hunt for curious readers.

Library Love is a scenario developed to show a service which is tied into the library's own system. It is used to create games which the librarians orchestrate and the users of the library play out secretly. In this case the game is matchmaking, a treasure hunt aiming to unite two people via a series of tailor made clues planted in specific books.

The initial clue is found in the date stamp given when a book is taken out. This enables the librarians to pinpoint specific users if the game requires it. This clue leads to another book in which there is a bookmark which may lead directly to another book or require more detective work based around systematic information such as page or dewey decimal numbers, names, subjects and authors. Some have more than one option, some are dead ends.

Only the inquisitive survive. The games could last for hours, days, months and even longer with few limits on their complexity, the books could be anywhere.

This project was presented in the week of Valentine's Day.

Project Background

This project addressed the use of scenarios as a means of communicating aspects of interactive systems. As background work we explored emotions and how they might be evoked in video. We also explored the nature of inputs and outputs within designed systems and everyday life.
